December 29, 2009 Tuesday Pactica at Bamboo Grove

*This week, we're featuring a whole DECADE: The Orchestras of the 1940s!*
From 9-10pm we embrace the Apex of the Golden Age of Tango, revisiting many of the major orchestras that recorded in the 1940's. We'll look at what these great bands have in common and how the vary both rhythmically and lyrically:
  • Featuring the orchestras of Di Sarli, D'Arienzo, Troilo, Tanturi, Laurenz, and many more...
  • Passion, romance, drama, and soul
  • Great melodies and complex rhythms
  • Featuring many great vocalists such as Roberto Rufino, Alberto Podestá, Hector Mauré, Enrique Campos, and Francisco Fiorentino.
* Last week we looked at orchestras of the 30s, and for the next two weeks the featured orchestra portion of the Practica will be devoted to the decades of, the 40s and the 50s, respectively. We will sample many orchestras of those times and explore the major sounds and styles that represented each decade, in the end giving us a large perspective of the music that we love dancing to, the music of the Golden Age of Tango*
