May 14th - The "aime comme moi" Milonga is switching nights!

Starting Saturday, May 14th, the "aime comme moi" Milonga is changing nights to the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at Tango Berretín.

Joe Leonardo’s milonga on the 1st and 3rd Friday on the month at Berretín will continue through April with the final Friday being May 6 and Megan Pingree's milonga at Berretín will continue on its regularly scheduled Friday.

This is an exciting change! Joe Leonardo will continue to DJ, teach and host, and to kick off the new night there will be a very special event (T.B.A.)!

From 9-10pm we will revisit 10 of the major tango orchestras that we have learn about at the practica over the past year. To test your growing knowledge of tango music, you'll have a chance to guess each of the orchestras and WIN A FREE PASS TO THE PRACTICA!

This is a great chance to get a refresher on all the major orchestras before we start to cover each one again in depth. Once again, the featured orchestra portion of the night is 9-10pm sharp, then an OPEN PRACTICA with tradition and some alternative music until midnights. See you there!

*This week, 3 featured orchestras: Firpo, Canaro & De Caro*
From 9-10pm we take a look at the origins of the tango we dance to, comparing/contrsting the Traditionalist and Evolutionary styles founded in these three orchestras:
  • Roberto Firpo: zippy and fast rhythms, crazy tango/milongas and vals --composer of many great tangos.
  • Francisco Canaro: carrying the traditional sound into popular culture and sucess.
  • Julio De Caro: turning tango on its ear, experimenting with melody & rhythm, and founding the avant-garde movement in tango.
